Two Mid-19th Century Victorian Staffordshire Cottages with Swans and Dog - image 1 of 14

Although these two charming cottages are not a pair, they do go well together as they both feature swans. The one with the waterwheel also has an added doghouse with a dog in its entrance. It has a lot of shreds of blue clay that create a pretty edging around it. An additional decorative touch is the flowering vine by the cottage door. Its thatched roof was done in two colorways.

This cottage comes with another. This one also has clay shreds surrounding and edging the roof as well as the front of the cottage as well as the small ponds in front. There are two large swans floating in these ponds outside. The rich, deep cobalt roof and upright posts add much color to this piece. The original gold leaf lines are still evident.

Both cottages have retained their thick blue overglazes that have helped keep their paint intact over the years. On the blue-roofed cottage, there is some loss of black paint edging the windows. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition. The cottage with the waterwheel is also in excellent condition, with no flaws to report.

These cottages are of a similar size, which helps them look attractive together. The blue-roofed one is about 6 inches wide, 7-½ inches high and 2-½ inches deep. The waterwheel house measures about 6 inches wide, 7 inches high and 2 inches deep.
