This covered Muffin Dish is the most prized item within the popular Homer Laughlin Moss Rose Pattern!
The domed round cover and under plate is in Homer Laughlin's Eggshell 1940's Swing shape. In essence the pattern is the same as Laughlin's Pink Organdy with the lovely rose addition. The Swing shape can be easily recognized by its gentle curves and modern circular handles and knobs. The Eggshell line of dishes were created as thinner, more elegant dinnerware (more like china) than Laughlin's previous pottery.
This gorgeous server set is somewhat delicate and rather difficult to find in such beautiful condition. There are no cracks or crazing and is still in Excellent Condition! The bottom of the under plate reflects a manufacture date of 1940.
The under plate measures 8 1/8" and the domes measures 5 7/8" from rim side to rim side and 3 3/4" tall. These sets are often referred to as a Muffin Dish or a Butter Dish as these are similar to the round butter dishes of the day. Small ( 5") pancakes, English Muffins, or your other favorite muffins can be kept warm under the cover while served at the breakfast table. The lid has a pin hole opening on either side of the circular handle to allow steam to escape.
This design is usually referred to as Moss Rose though sometimes found under Calirose or Calarose.
