During the 1930s, the Roseville company designed and introduced some of their most popular lines. A popular pattern then as it is now was called baneda, first introduced to the market place in 1932. The line sports a band of leaves, blooms and seed pods resembling small pumpkins circling the body of the pieces with a background of either a modeled pink or blended green hue. Sometimes this line has gone by the nickname pumpkin pattern. It was produced primarily in vases and bowls but also a wall pocket and candle sticks were created. I have even owned a factory original lamp in the same color as this particular vase. This large striking example sports a distinctly molded band of florals and seed pods circling the body underneath the two handles. The shape/catalogue number is 596-9. The vase stands 9 1/8” tall and measures 7 1/2” across the middle of the body at the base of the handles. In excellent original condition showing no damage or repairs. I will mention and as pictured a small spot on one side of the vase below the floral band which appears under magnification to be a glaze flaw, possibly a popped bubble or a glaze blemish. This spot is most visible in bright light and close inspection, it tends to blend with the modeled pink glaze in this area. I also pictured a small scratch in the glaze near the base of one handle which really does not cause an issue-mentioned for accuracy. The inside is clean showing no residue from use, the coloration at the bottom, as pictured, is actually the pink glaze used on the outside which dribbled prior to firing. There is one craze line on the inside visible in one picture which has slightly darker coloration, again for accuracy. A fantastic and large example to highlight any art pottery collection!
