Salvador Dali Autograph 1961 Authentic Original Hand Signed - Famous Surrealist Spanish Artist (1904-1989)
Living in New York City in the 1960's it was not unusual to see famous celebrities - actors, actresses, entertainers and artists as private citizens, walking on Fifth Avenue, at a theater or shopping in New York's famous department stores - Saks Fifth Avenue, Bonwit Teller and Bloomingdale's. I often saw several well known personalities in Manhattan and I never intruded on their privacy except one very special evening at the Chateau Madrid nightclub. Already seated with my family, I noticed the famous artist, Salvador Dali being seated at a corner table where he could have some privacy.
I was a young teenage girl, sitting the closest to him, only a few feet away and I politely asked for his autograph, he kindly obliged. He was alone at his table and very elegantly dressed in a black suit and brocade vest, holding a walking stick with silver "T" handle in front of him. The blue program card on the table was the only piece of paper handy for him to sign with a ballpoint pen - in his distinctive Dali signature & 1961, I thanked him and left to watch the Flamenco performance he came to see - Carmen Amaya. I am also attaching a photo of Mr. Dali as I remember him with his famous handlebar mustache and silver handled walking stick, but in the photo he is wearing a daytime suit, not his fine evening attire.
Carmen Amaya was regarded the finest female Flamenco dancer from Barcelona, Spain. Born in 1913 she died in 1963, too young and only 2 years after she performed in New York City. The blue program card measures 9 x 6-1/2", folded in half 4-1/2 x 6-1/2". Since there is printing on both sides of the card i made sure to frame this card with a double glass frame. The simple black frame measures almost 9 x 11". It can be hung by the saw-tooth hanger or U shape metal stand that inserts in the back. The card has some stains from when it was placed on the nightclub table and also kept with my collection of art books from the time I was an Art History student at New York University.
I am also including one of my beautiful Art Dali art books, the red hardcover book is in very good condition, only the paper dust cover shows some wear since this book has moved with me a few times. I am attaching photos from several pages in the Dali book illustrating the paintings of this famous Surrealist artist written by Luis Romero & printed in 1975. The book will be mailed separately - Printed Matter and the framed autographed Dali card will be mailed Priority Mail - Insured - with tracking & Signature Confirmation both at no cost to buyer mailed in the U.S.
It is rare to see an authentic hand signed Dali autograph unless you purchase a Dali painting or print.
